Sindhology (Sindhi: سنڌولوجي) is a field of study and academic research that covers the history, society, culture, and literature of Sindh, a province of Pakistan. The subject was first brought into the academic circles with the establishment of the Institute of Sindhology at Sindh University in 1964. Since then, it has developed into a discipline that covers the aspects of history and archaeology from the Indus Valley Civilization to the modern Sindhi society. The subject has also received wider attention at international levels. An academic or expert who specialises in Sindhology is called a Sindhologist.

History

The term Sindhology to denote a subject of knowledge about Sindh was first coined in 1964 with the establishment of the Institute of Sindhology. The objective at the time was to promote the study and broader research on Sindh, and develop a repository of archives, books, manuscripts, and research papers. Another wider objective was to promote the knowledge about Sindh in various other national and regional languages of Pakistan, as well as international languages such as Arabic, English, Persian and Urdu.

The subject was actually developed on the patterns of Egyptology and Indology. The study area encompassed the multidisciplinary research about the land that has been shaped by the 5000 years old Indus Valley Civilization as well as the Indus river (locally known as Sindhu Darya). This enables the scope of the study to cover the antiquities, relics, culture, traditions, and literature with unique forms of music, art, and poetry that has prevailed in both the ancient and modern Sindh. Aram Rappaport directed the film from a script he wrote and developed with the help of Hilary Shor. Rappaport's second feature film, 2013’s Syrup (film) — an adaptation of the 1999 novel by Max Barry — starred bombshell (and future Mrs. Johnny Depp) Amber Heard and actor Shiloh Fernandez, both hired by Rappaport before their careers had taken off. Those prescient casting choices underscored Rappaport’s eye for young talent; now, Hollywood bigwigs are calling Rapport himself the big thing. “My relationship with Aram was formed under the trials of shooting on such a small budget,” says “Jekyll Island” producer Hilary Shor, whose other recent credits include The Paperboy with Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron and Lee Daniels The Butler. “I have faith he will develop into an extraordinary filmmaker, and I was happy to be able to nurture that talent.” said Shor.

The two began developing the script during the shoot for Shor's movie, The Paperboy. "The recent events transpiring within our federal government make this film topical and poignant. I think we’re all wondering what’s going to happen to our money", Shor said about what inspired them for the movie.

Creative Artists Agency and The Gersh Agency are credited with movie packaging. Rappaport is managed by Gersh. Casting

Principal photography took place in Chicago and New Buffalo, Michigan during November 2013.

The Chicago Sun-Times Splash magazine reported "Aram has very fond memories of what Dianna was like on set, even recalling one “hilarious” moment involving the former Glee star: “While we were shooting, there was a fight on HBO that Ed Westwick, Frank, and Minnie wanted to watch. They convinced the owners of the house we shot at to let them watch it on the big-screen TV. I go to check up on them, and someone is yelling about the fight, ‘Come on, hit ‘em! Hit ‘em!’ And it’s Dianna! Dianna is freaking out in front of the fight, putting up her fists, aggressively angry at the TV. It was a hilarious moment.”

Filming wrapped in December 2013.
